A Fine Beginning
A Fine Beginning is a Welsh photography collective that offers a platform to discover and showcase photography being made in and about Wales. The collective takes it’s name from the first chapter of Dylan Thomas’s unfinished novel ‘Adventures in the Skin Trade’.
The collective launched with a publication in May 2013 at the publishing weekend of the inaugural Diffusion: Cardiff International Festival of Photography. The publication showcased the work of our four members; Gawain Barnard, Jack Latham, Abbie Trayler-Smith and James O Jenkins.
Our first exhibition A Fine Beginning: Made in Wales was at Arcade Cardiff in March 2014 showing work from the collective as well as selected images from our weekly blog. The second ‘Made in Wales’ exhibited at Oriel Colwyn during September 2014 and featured work by 21 photographers from our blog.
In August 2014 we joined Scottish collective Document Scotland in an exhibition called ‘Common Ground’ at Street Level Photoworks in Glasgow. The exhibition featured new work from both collectives and will be shown throughout Wales in 2016
In 2015 a new Made in Wales exhibition was shown throughout Wales and London
